With the third Tuesday of every month circled on our calendar, we needed little reminder of why Tumble and I were getting up early, why Tumble was phoning in sick to substitute teacher dispatch, why Tumble and I were racing through our bowls of cereal: It was Bulk Trash Day, that most special of days that only comes twelve times a year.
Little did we know just how special today would be.

The fates had finaly afforded our planned band a rhythm section, what with the electric bass I'd borrowed from our landlord Phil, complete with a metronome and a five-volume Mel Bay book set.
Between the drum kit, a foot stool and a cowboy lamp we had ourselves a certifiable bounty. Why they don't sing Bulk Day carols I'll never understand.
Epilogue: The foot stool ended up having to return to the curb, since a family of weevils already had "dibs". On the way home, our first band meeting erupted into a name debate, myself inclined towards "The Tenderlies", Tumble favoring "The Screeching Halts". Tumble phoned Chestnut to tell him he was keyboards, and to find a keyboard.
*February 8 Update* An astute reader has contributed what may be the first Bulk Day carol in recorded history courtesy metafilter:
"bu-u-u-lk day, ho-o-o-ly day / free drum set, but weevils get / that footstool we had our hearts on / cowboy lamp that really turns on "
A very special thank you to Natasha for making my day. What? Oh, and Tumble has just toasted you with an Amaretto-and-Margarita-Mix (grocery day is tomorrow).
