After a marathon screening of Sympathy for the Devil, The Last Waltz and Meeting People is Easy, Chestnut, Tumble and I sat around and discussed what it would take to be a successful band and by unanimous vote decided to remain an unsuccessful one. We then voted 2-1 to forego band practice and instead finish out Tumble's Netflix pile by watching Koyaanisqatsi in the dark on a heavy buzz. Chestnut, the sole dissenting vote, declined because, according to him, he'd seen Koyaanisqatsi in junior high and had refused to leave the house for four days. As a compromise, we agreed to park the Pontiac outside Ross Park Mall and watch the shoppers come and go while we listened to Phillip Glass. This was eventually balanced out by a round of Orange Julii and a game of parking lot freeze tag. I confided to Chestnut as he and I calmly speedwalked away from the security guards (our game of tag had inadvertantly expanded into a Kaufmann's Department Store, leaving Tumble haplessly frozen in Men's Activewear) that maybe forming a band was a limp attempt to formalize what had already proven itself to be a durable friendship between three people. Chestnut was too busy shimmying between two dumpsters to hear me, and I didn't bother repeating it.
